Career Services Coordinator

JOB DESCRIPTION


   

SUMMARY

The Career Services Coordinator assesses the needs of Participants to overcome barriers and assist them in finding employment, assist in transition to employment, and ensure that positive employment outcomes are achieved.  The Career Services Coordinator will be responsible for setting up CTTP’s certificated work skills training program. The Career Services Coordinator will initiate and maintain a network of employers and job placement opportunities that cover the range of skills and interests demonstrated by Participants.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Coordinate the planning and implantation of CTTP’s career development program.
  • Interview Participants to obtain employment history, education and career goals; identify barriers to employment; and engage in career exploration opportunities.
  • Administer and interpret assessment tests designed to determine the interest, aptitudes and abilities of Participants.
  • Meet with Site Managers and Caseworkers to recommend necessary training to assist their participants with job readiness skills, resume writing, job search strategies, and interview preparation.
  • Meet with Participants to discuss any relevant skills, abilities and behaviors necessary for satisfactory performance.
  • Work closely with Caseworkers to assist Participants with developing individualized job search plans. 
  • Evaluate implementation of individualized Participant job search plans based on aptitude, transferable skills, work history, interest assessment and career focus.
  • Act as liaison between CTTP and One-Stop Centers and other job placement programs.
  • Promote widespread, positive image/knowledge of California Tribal TANF Partnership.
  • Maintain records to monitor the success level of the program.
  • Educate Participants, Site Managers, Caseworkers, and administrators about the role of career development.
  • Involve Participants, staff and administrators in delivery of career development services.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate plan for monitoring Participants progress toward completion of career pathway requirements.
  • Ensure compliance of programs with federal, state and program regulations.
  • Provide individual support and guidance to help Participants expand work readiness skills and accomplish their goals. 
  • Meet with participant to evaluate plans, identify accomplishments, update goals, and provide job retention supports as requested. 
  • Share information about interactions with the participant’s Site Manager/or Caseworker when appropriate and participate in case planning to coordinate services. 
  • Provide referral to other programs and services as needed.
  • Establish relationships with businesses and develop creative internship opportunities and subsidized or unsubsidized short and long-term employment placements with a variety of employers. 
  • Make presentations to employers and other community organizations that result in work learning and placement opportunities for participant. 
  • Provide support to Participant and employers to facilitate and sustain successful placements. 
  • Make arrangements for tours and job shadows at a variety of businesses. 
  • Coordinate efforts with other Career Developers.
  • Model and articulate the standards for workplace demeanor, language, dress and professionalism. 
  • Coordinate the career development/placement program for Participants seeking employment. 
  • Assist Participants in the usage of Career Pillar training website. 
  • Assist Summer Youth Employment Coordinator with career resource information establishing summer job possibilities. 
  • Serve as a liaison between business, colleges, and Participants for purposes of communicating career development, employment opportunities and trends. 
  • Assist Site Managers in maintaining full-time and part-time job announcement directory.
  • Assist in writing resumes, completing applications and advising on interviewing techniques or refer to Caseworker for applicable training.
  • Research trends and order resource materials and audio visual tapes for library.
  • Develop brochures and booklets advertising career and development opportunity services; coordinates a series of career forum activities; 
  • Prepare reports and evaluations of specific programs.
  • Cultivate, develop and maintain new and existing relationships with prospective employers through direct correspondences, visits, memberships in appropriate professional organizations, attendance at conferences and workshops, etc.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.


KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • BA or BS from an accredited university and/or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of career assessment tools.
  • Knowledge of general economic conditions and trends; including California (and local) industrial, labor, business, and agricultural conditions; employment practices; and employment and training requirements.
  • Knowledge of various academic program requirements, job requirements, and TANF program requirements.
  • The ability to work with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, methods, procedures and computer systems.
  • Knowledge of general goals, purposes, and services of California Tribal TANF Partnership.
  • Active listening skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assigned tasks.
  • Must possess a valid driver license and be insurable under CTTP insurance.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Requires sitting, standing, and driving approximately 8 hours per day.
  • Requires extensive travel, driving to site offices, some of which are in remote locations, and to meetings with community contacts.
  • Requires contact with others (face-to-face, by telephone, via e-mail, or through correspondence).
  • Requires making decisions that affect other people, the financial resources, and/or the image and reputation of the organization.
  • Requires work with others in a group or team.

 

OTHER

  • Experience working with Tribal People helpful. 
  • Work hours may vary. 
  • CTTP conducts a pre-employment criminal background check and drug test, and random or for-cause drug testing thereafter.
  • CTTP complies with the Indian Preference Act.
